this week's "green" purchase

In my green journey, I'm replacing or purchasing at least one thing each month that is safer for my health, the environment, or both. Obviously I'm starting with the least expensive stuff first which is why I can afford one thing a month.

This week's purchase is a Sigg.
I got the purple one that says "Rise Above Plastic". A Hippie bottle for the Hippie in me. :)

I had to wait for this particular design to come off backorder from www.reusablebags.com

I googled coupon codes and ended up getting my Sigg for cheaper than if I'd bought it at Whole Foods (which they didn't have the one I wanted anyway). I spent $20.91. It sounds like a lot for a water bottle, I know. However, I would easily spend that much in a month on Fiji's and Smart Water. So it will save me money in the future and I will not be contributing as much to the landfill collection of plastic water bottles. My health will also be improved when I'm not drinking out of plastic. Read about Sigg's quality on their website.

Now, if I could just afford the Reverse Osmosis under-the-sink filtration unit I want......
I'd have to save up a few months of allowance for this one! (and its one of the cheaper units I've found)

I love that bottle...Chris and I have also talked about using a Brita water filter and refilling things like the Sigg.

Last week, I bought 6 Klean Kanteens. 3 for Hunter, and 3 for Jason and I. I also got the sippy adaptors for Hunter and he loves them!! We use them all day!!

i'm going to purchase myself a sigg!! very excited about it - isn't that fun when you're excited about a water bottle?;) i want to get a kids one for ian but i'm not sure if he'd be able to really drink out of it yet - he still uses sippy cups...any suggestions?

Rachel -

at www.mysigg.com click on "accessories" and you will see they have add ons for the kids cups. As Amy mentioned - Kleen Kanteens are good too and have kid-friendly-sippy-cup like gear.

Braelyn is still using her "safer" plastic Sippy cups....Born Free, Nuby, Take & Toss. I think I might have a list somewhere of all the safer plastics if anyone wants me to email it...

The reverse osmosis systems are pricey and I haven't researched them in detail b/c I don't see us getting one anytime soon. The ones I've seen range in price from $175 to $800. One for the whole house is 10K!! Then you've got the filters to replace as well.
This website has few to look at http://www.freedrinkingwater.com/products.htm
I want one that goes under the sink. I hope within the next year we can afford to get one.
I know you can also get them at Lowes, Home Depot...
