Apple Cider Vingegar & General Ranting on Stress

I've heard lately about the healing properties of Apple Cider Vinegar (the organic, raw, unpasteurized with the "mother"- I got some at our local health food store). So, I decided to try it. Today is my first day. I just combined 2 tsps with 8 oz of purified water. Its not a great taste, but its manageable. Some people mix it with other beverages and add honey to taste.

Here's a run-down on the stuff :
(sorry, I lost the link, just cut and pasted)

There surely must be something really healthy in using apple cider vinegar, since The Father of Medicine, Hippocrates, used this vinegar around 400 B.C. for its health giving qualities. It is said that he had only two remedies: honey and apple cider vinegar.

Apple cider vinegar is made from fresh ripe apples that are fermented and undergo a stringent process to create the final product. The vinegar contains a host of vitamins, beta-carotene, pectin and vital minerals such as potassium, sodium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorous, chlorine, sulphur, iron, and fluorine.

Pectin in the vinegar is a fiber which helps reduce bad cholesterol and helps in regulating blood pressure. The need for calcium supplements once you start growing older is very well known. This vinegar helps extract calcium from the fruits, vegetables and meat it is mixed with, helping in the process of maintaining strong bones. Potassium deficiency causes a variety of ailments including hair loss, weak finger nails, brittle teeth, sinusitis, and a permanently running nose. Apple cider vinegar is loaded with potassium. Studies have shown that potassium deficiency results in stunted growth. All these ailments can be avoided with the intake of apple cider vinegar. The potassium in this vinegar also helps in eliminating toxic waste from the body. The beta-carotene helps in countering damage caused by free radicals, helping one maintain firmer skin and a youthful appearance. Apple cider vinegar is good for those wanting to lose weight. It helps in breaking down fat which helps in natural weight reduction.

Apple cider vinegar contains malic acid which is very helpful in fighting fungal and bacterial infections. This acid dissolves uric acid deposits that form around joints, helping relieve joint pains. This dissolved uric acid is gradually eliminated from the body.

It is claimed that apple cider vinegar is helpful in ailments such as constipation, headaches, arthritis, weak bones, indigestion, high cholesterol, diarrhea, eczema, sore eyes, chronic fatigue, mild food poisoning, hair loss, high blood pressure, obesity, along with a host of many other ailments. No wonder then many know apple cider vinegar as the "Wonder Drug".

Lately I've been having a lot of physical pains. Headaches, nausea, stomach issues, mouth ulcers, chronic sore throat, back pain, neck pain......I think a lot of it is from stress...finally taking its toll on my body after 4 months. I work too many hours a week and then have non-stop mommy duty when I get home. Its harder than I thought, working full time and being a mom. Especially since my job can be high stress. I typically don't take lunch, I'm so busy that the time sort of flies by. I eat, but I don't take time out for a break, which I need to - for my health. I have done yoga the past couple of days, but now I've thrown my hip out. (Sciatica) So, I have to take a break from the yoga for a little while. Its funny, the thing I was doing to try and relax and lessen my stress just flared up something else!
I know I could go to the doctor and they would gladly write me a prescription for a happy pill, but I really want to try and take care of my stress and anxiety the natural way.
I've cut out caffeine (except on occassion), I eat unprocessed foods and stay away from foods with preservatives. (which I've always been pretty good about) I'm trying to get my "5 a day" of fruits and veggies. So, maybe the apple cider vinegar method will become a part of my healthy lifestyle. I'm excited to see if I feel better after a few days.
One thing to note with the apple cider vinegar - after drinking it, you need to rinse WELL with water, as the acidic properties can wreak havoc on your tooth enamel.

Try a chiropractor! Not just for your sciatica but also for preventative medicine!! You just have to check out who you see beforehand b/c some are wacky.
Then, there's also acupuncture!

Let me know if you want the name of my chiro...

Today I'm having it with apple juice. The vinegar is hardly even noticeable. I don't know if having it with apple juice affects any of the properties of adding the vinegar to water alone, but it does taste better.

Such a long story...sorry!

I would 2nd the chiropractor. I love mine and have actually convinced not only my husband, but a fellow sufferer of all sorts of pain to join in and she swears by it. Her exact words, "I had no idea how much pain I was in and that I REALLY needed to relax until I came here."

Before getting pregnant, I suffered from high stress that triggered migraines, back pain, and my general health declined. Going to the chiro alleviated my back pain, as well as my migraines. Now that I'm pregnant and the back pain flared up, I immediately called my chiro and after two weeks, I was fully functional again. So much that I could start doing a mild jog at 7 months pregnant. I hadn't been able to jog in two months, so that felt great.

I applaud you for the vinegar thing. I've heard about it before and I was curious to see how much of an affect it would have. Let me know how it works and like the previous person said, email me if you want the name of my chiropractor.
